SSSD has an opening for a Mechanical Technician 2/3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.
Responsibilities:
Assisting thermal insulation products engineers in the design, fabrication, packaging, inventory and integration of Space Vehicle MLI.
Work independently or in small teams to fabricate MLI products from 2D design templates and install MLI products onto space flight hardware at the unit, subsystem, and system levels per installation drawings and procedures. Individual must be able to follow standard MLI processes and maintain necessary certifications.
This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Must be willing to work any shift and extended work weeks. Some travel may be required.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications (Level 2):
High school diploma or equivalent and 2 year additional education and/or related experience
Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment
Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as required
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time
US Citizenship required
Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) or SCI Access

High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience
Hands-on knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment
Willing to work any shift and cover extended work weeks as required

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Thermal Insulation Product fabrication and integration methodologies
Experience working on space flight hardware
Experience working in a clean room facility
Proficient in use of variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment
Comprehension with reading drawings, process specification and work order instructions
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
Currently possess active DoD TS or SCI clearance
