Sustainment Technician I – Solar O&M

Job Summary
The Sustainment Technician I is a field-based role responsible for supporting the maintenance, inspection, and basic service of residential and commercial solar PV systems. This position works under the direction of senior technicians and the Service Manager to ensure system performance, safety, and reliability.
This role is ideal for individuals with prior solar or construction-related experience who are looking to grow their technical skills and build a long-term career in the renewable energy industry.
This role is based out of our Wheeling, IL office and requires regular travel to job sites throughout the surrounding area. Candidates should be located within a reasonable commuting distance to support daily operations.
Work schedules may vary based on service demand, weather conditions, and project needs. Overtime may be required in accordance with applicable laws. Operation of a company vehicle may be required; a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and commercial solar PV systems
- Support routine O&M inspections across roof-mounted, ground-mounted, and carport systems
- Identify and report system performance issues to senior technicians and leadership
- Safely access rooftops and elevated structures while following all safety protocols
- Travel to customer sites on a regular, local basis
- Complete service documentation, job notes, and updates using company systems
- Support senior technicians in diagnosing and resolving system issues
- Maintain tools, equipment, and service materials
- Follow all company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical or trade training in electrical, construction, or related field is a plus
Experience
- Prior solar, electrical, roofing, or construction experience required
- Familiarity with residential and commercial job sites, including working at heights
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and tools preferred
- OSHA 10 preferred (or ability to obtain within required timeframe)
- Valid driver’s license with clean MVR

Work Environment & Requirements
- Field-based role with regular local travel (home each night)
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. and perform physical work
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
