Job Description

DPR Construction is seeking to fill a key role in Raleigh as the Senior Surveyor. The successful candidate will take ownership of building control/layout, and support reality capture, laser scanning, UAV operations and other applications across the business units in the Southeast region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead survey, building control, and layout services across Raleigh-Durham and designated projects.
  • Enhance surveying & layout activities with robotic total stations, GNSS, and GPS to support building control, self-perform work, field validation, quality control and quality assurance.
  • Support planning & execution of reality capture services utilizing terrestrial laser scanning and UAV/photogrammetry tools to capture, process, and document existing and as-built conditions of interior and exterior spaces.
  • Plan, manage and deliver consistent activities for multiple construction projects.
  • Support on-site construction team efforts in the implementation of field VDC applications, processes, and deliverables; support setup of BIM to Field equipment and/or software.
  • Support project teams and VDC engineers on the utilization and analysis of reality capture deliverables (point clouds, meshes, 360 photos, etc.).
  • Manage licensed 3rd party surveyors and subsurface exploration activities.  Verify their work.
  • Plan and execute field survey activities in accordance with required standards.
  • Develop and lead surveying and layout training programs, mentor project personnel, and promote field technology and VDC adoption.
  • Collaborate with local and remote teams to streamline workflows and automate data processing.
  • Develop and improve current workflows.
  • Teach and spread knowledge across the business unit through one-on-one trainings, group trainings, webinars, and symposiums.
  • Oversee equipment and asset management, ensuring firmware is up-to-date and resources are efficiently allocated.
  • Assist with the allocation of resources and management of personnel.

Basic Qualifications

  • Position requires lifting and carrying moderately heavy equipment (25lbs+), climbing ladders and occasionally scanning crawl spaces and enclosed ceilings.
  • Position requires being on feet for long periods of time.
  • Flexible hours with early start times as needed, including occasional night or weekend work.
  • Open to travel within the Southeast region, although primarily located in Raleigh-Durham.
  • Ability to plan and execute multiple projects.
  • Able to read and understand construction documents, shop drawings and plans.
  • Expert in performing traverses, establishing building control, transferring control for interiors layout, and establishing benchmarks.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or AutoCAD.
  • Desire to learn, implement emerging technologies, and spread awareness of real solutions.

Bonus Qualifications (Preferred but not required)

  • 3D scanning hardware and software knowledge with implementation experience in construction industry
  • Proficient in Autodesk Recap, Leica Register 360, and/or Leica Cyclone software packages.
  • Proficient in DroneDeploy, StructionSite, and/or other photogrammetry post-processing software packages
  • Experience with concrete GPR systems and deliverables
  • FAA Part 107 Commercial Drone Pilot Certification or ability to obtain in the first 6 months.

Required Education

  • Minimum 10+ years of hands-on construction or surveying experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years of surveying and implementation of robotic total stations in construction.
  • Associates Degree or Bachelors’ Degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or similar field is a plus.
