Overview

The Principal Engineer Scientist IX will provide expert-level technical leadership in managing technical data, training systems, and advanced engineering services for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS). This role requires a highly experienced professional to support the design, development, evaluation, and sustainment of UAS systems, including their associated technical data frameworks and training devices. The Engineer Scientist IX will serve as a key advisor to government stakeholders, lead cross-functional teams, and ensure the successful execution of complex engineering and scientific tasks aligned with UAS lifecycle requirements.

Responsibilities

Technical Data Management:

  • Digital Enterprise Framework: Support Digital Enterprise product data and Digital Thread framework management, including review and verification of Logistics Product Data and Digital System Models.
  • Engineering Change Proposals: Analyze and assess Engineering Change Proposals, Modification Work Orders, and Requests for Waiver and Deviations to identify logistics impacts and lifecycle product support requirements.
  • Technical Data Analysis: Provide expert analysis of provisioning logistics support source data, engineering source data, and maintenance repair/test procedures to develop practical procedures for equipment publications.
  • Publication Development: Develop, revise, and maintain equipment publications, including Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals, Operator Manuals, and Depot Maintenance Work Requirements.
  • Data Rights and Logistics Support: Analyze and assess program data rights and integrated logistics support data deliverables from manufacturers to ensure compliance with program requirements.

Training, Training Devices, and Test Support:

  • Training Strategy Leadership: Develop and implement cohesive strategies to train Warfighters to operate and maintain UAS throughout the lifecycle.
  • Training Devices Acquisition: Lead the development of documentation to acquire Training Aides Devices Simulators and Simulations (TADSS) and ensure their sustainment at the lowest total ownership cost.
  • Courseware Development: Oversee the creation and maintenance of UAS operator and maintainer courseware, including Interactive Multimedia Instruction (IMI) and Virtual Immersive Environment materials.
  • Training Validation: Provide expert analysis and recommendations for training materials, corrective action plans, and readiness requirements to ensure effective training delivery.
  • Test Support: Lead efforts to provide recommendations for Government acceptance testing, fielding, and New Equipment Training (NET) for TADSS.

Engineering Services:

  • Technical and Engineering Leadership: Provide advanced engineering services for the design, development, evaluation, analysis, documentation, production, and sustainment of UAS systems, including associated supporting systems.
  • Cybersecurity and Information Assurance: Deliver expert engineering services to ensure UAS systems meet cybersecurity and information assurance requirements.
  • Aircraft Survivability: Lead engineering efforts to enhance aircraft survivability and system safety.
  • Mission Systems Architecture: Develop and sustain mission systems architecture to ensure modular, scalable, and interoperable solutions.

Qualifications

Required:

 

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Science or a related discipline.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 15+ years of task-related experience gained after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in science or a related field.
    • Extensive experience with UAS systems, technical data management, and lifecycle management is required.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in engineering tools and methodologies related to technical data management, system design, cybersecurity, and mission systems architecture.
  • Security Clearance:
    • Active SECRET clearance required.

Work Location:

  • Primary: Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
  • Secondary: Authorized virtual work location per customer Telework Policy. Temporary Duty (TDY) may be required at other locations.

Additional Requirements:

  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
  • Deep knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to UAS systems and technical data management.
