The Gogo FAA Certification Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification process, and oversees various projects of significant magnitude in terms of complexity, cost, time-constraints, internal and external staffing, and equipment, including software, hardware and specific certification efforts.  You will coordinate and manage certification activities for multiple Gogo products and Supplemental Type Certificates (STC’s) on aircraft.  You will allocate the appropriate resources (internal and external) to meet the timely completion of STC’s and support of external TC’s with customers.  You will also ensure compliance with applicable regulations and provide guidance on certification to team members throughout the project.  You will support Gogo’s development assurance process, and support FAA audits as well as AS9100 audits.

How will you make a difference?

  • FAA Certification Subject Matter Expert
  • Collaborate with Engineering to identify certification requirements and methods of compliance
  • Develop and maintain the Certification Plan, Conformity Plan, Compliance Checklist, Ground/Flight Test Plan and Report, TIA, Compliance Report, Weight & Balance Report, MDL, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness, and other required documentation
  • Participate in stakeholder meetings and provide guidance on regulations
  • Manage and develop certification team vision
  • Support the Systems/Software/Hardware AEH audits for compliance with regulations, special conditions and/or contractual obligations
  • Submit and track Requests for Conformity for parts and installation
  • Coordinate with DERs to obtain FAA approval on documents and participate in test witnessing
  • Work with Flight Operations team to schedule aircraft to oversee wiring and installation changes; ensure FAA conformity is completed; conduct ground/flight test in coordination with FAA
  • Stay updated on latest FAA rules and trends
  • Provide leadership to Gogo on compliance with FAA requirements and reports to the Director of Hardware
  • Interface with all areas affected by the projects including, but not limited to, outside suppliers, end users, management, the FAA and end customers 
  • Follow and improve processes and ensure team discipline and adherence. Bring new ideas for improvement.  Support AS 9100 Processes and Certifications
  • Effectively and regularly communicate with direct management, the assigned and extended team (both internal or external), the FAA (and/or their delegates), as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field preferred, or equivalent Avionics / Certification experience
  • 8-10 years Avionics experience involving certifications required, Aircraft A&P, FAA DER or DAR
  • 4+ years’ experience in supervision and development of teams and management of projects
  • Engineering and/or product development as an engineer, or significant field experience is required


Required Skills, Experience, & Talents

  • Certification experience focused on Aircraft, Software or Hardware, or a combination a plus 
  • Familiarity with ARP 4754A, DO-178C, and DO-254.
  • Ability to interface with the FAA and/or ODA for STC/TC work
  • Experience on corporate or business aircraft preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and/or electrical and mechanical drawings and sketches
  • Strong leadership skills – leads by example, develop and extend trust


Preferred Skills, Experience, & Talent

  • Experience working with Telecommunications and IFE products a plus Demonstrated high level of competency in team building and dealing with ambiguous situations
  • Practical experience in any of the engineering domains preferred Proven track record of problem-solving, broad thinking, leadership and a high level of energy and urgency
  • Effectively communicates through the company, as required, both internally and external of the team. Strong interpersonal and written skills
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude towards change in a fast-moving environment
  • Use PC tools to manage details, such as Outlook, Visio, Word and Excel

Equal Pay Disclosure(s)

Base Pay:

120,000.00 - 150,000.00 USD Annual

Target Annual Short-Term Incentive:

Bonus Plan at 10% (% of Annualized Base Pay)
