Job Summary:We are looking for a skilled and experienced Lead Electrician to join our growing rooftop solar team. As a Lead Electrician, you will oversee the electrical components of solar energy systems, ensuring the safe and efficient installation, wiring, and connection of solar panels and related equipment. You will lead a team of electricians and general laborers while working closely with the project manager to ensure all work meets electrical codes, project timelines, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Solar Electrical Installations: Supervise and perform the electrical installation of solar energy systems, including connecting solar panels, inverters, electrical panels, and related components on residential and commercial rooftops.
  • Electrical Wiring and Circuiting: Design, install, and troubleshoot electrical wiring for photovoltaic (PV) systems, ensuring all work adheres to national and local electrical codes.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, train, and mentor a team of electricians and laborers. Ensure the team follows best practices, safety protocols, and project specifications.
  • Site Coordination: Coordinate with project managers and other team leads to ensure all aspects of the electrical installation are completed on time and in compliance with project requirements.
  • Inspection and Testing: Conduct system tests to verify proper electrical connections and functionality of the solar power system. Perform voltage and continuity tests to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Address and resolve electrical issues that arise during the installation process, including troubleshooting wiring issues, equipment faults, and system malfunctions.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all electrical work is done to the highest standards, including proper grounding, bonding, and the safe installation of electrical components.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, electrical codes, and company policies. Actively promote and enforce safety practices on the job site.
  • Client Communication: Occasionally interact with clients to address concerns or questions related to electrical installation or system operation.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of electrical installations, system configurations, and safety inspections. Report any issues, delays, or changes to the project supervisor.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Assist in post-installation maintenance, system repairs, and troubleshooting as needed to ensure systems continue to operate safely and efficiently.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Completion of an apprenticeship program or technical training in electrical systems preferred.
  • Licensing/Certification:
  • Must be a licensed electrician (Journeyman or Master Electrician) in [state/country].
  • NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) Solar PV Installation Certification is a plus.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical work, including residential and commercial electrical systems.
  • At least 2 years of experience specifically in the solar industry or working with renewable energy systems.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes (NEC) and PV system wiring.
  • Proficient in using electrical testing equipment (multimeters, voltage testers, etc.).
  • Familiar with inverter, combiner boxes, and other solar system components.
  • Leadership Skills:
  • Experience leading and mentoring teams of electricians or construction professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and ensure quality control.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work at heights, including on rooftops, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, and stand for long periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of battery storage systems and hybrid inverters.
  • Experience with energy management systems or grid-tied PV systems.
  • Familiarity with solar permitting and inspection processes.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Working Conditions:

  • Work will primarily be outdoors on rooftops and in various weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, etc.).
  • Occasional travel between job sites within the local or regional area.
  • Physical demands include working at heights, lifting heavy equipment, and manual labor.
  • Work hours may vary based on project needs, including occasional overtime or weekend work.
