If you're looking to contribute your expertise to a globally recognized organization, explore the details below and submit your application!
Note: Successful applicants will be employees of Raise Limited, working at ExxonMobil facilities with both ExxonMobil employees and other contractors.
Overview
You build the 3D geological models that drive thermal heavy-oil development at a global energy company. Your models show where the bitumen is and what will help or block steam. Teams use them to place well pairs, plan pads, and run thermal simulation. Success means models that match what the steam chamber actually does.
What you'll do
- Build structural, stratigraphic, facies, and property models for steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD), cyclic steam stimulation (CSS), steamflood, and solvent-assisted projects.
- Correlate wells, build surfaces and zones, and model mudstone barriers, inclined heterolithic stratification, water, gas, and thief zones.
- Distribute porosity, permeability, water and bitumen saturation, net-to-gross, and shale volume.
- Generate deterministic and probabilistic realizations that capture key uncertainties.
- Upscale models, run volumetrics and sensitivities, and prepare grids for thermal simulation.
- Match models to injection, production, pressure, temperature, observation-well, and 4D seismic data.
- Support pad planning, well-pair and infill placement, geosteering, and reserves work.
- Review contractor models and keep workflows reproducible and documented.
- Mentor less-experienced staff and explain model results to decision-makers.
Required
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in geology, geophysics, petroleum geoscience, geological engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of oil and gas experience, with substantial geomodeling in in-situ heavy-oil reservoirs.
- Advanced structural, stratigraphic, facies, and property modeling.
- Strong knowledge of unconsolidated clastic reservoirs, stratigraphic correlation, petrophysics, geostatistics, and heavy-oil geology.
- Experience with multiple realizations, volumetrics, upscaling, grid design, and preparing models for thermal simulation.
- Proven skill matching models with production and surveillance data.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
Preferred
- Direct modeling of SAGD, CSS, steamflood, or solvent-assisted reservoirs.
- Detailed knowledge of mudstone architecture, channel systems, and their effect on steam chambers.
- Pad design, horizontal well placement, geosteering, and infill support.
- Advanced Petrel skills: geostatistical modeling, uncertainty workflows, and simulation-grid prep.
- Familiarity with INTERSECT, Spotfire, Power BI, or Python.
- Scripted workflows, model version control, and data governance.
