Who is Flock?

Flock is the leading safety technology platform, helping communities thrive by taking a proactive approach to crime prevention and security. Our hardware and software suite connects cities, law enforcement, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods in a nationwide public-private safety network. Trusted by over 5,000 communities, 4,500 law enforcement agencies, and 1,000 businesses, Flock delivers real-time intelligence while prioritizing privacy and responsible innovation.

We’re a high-performance, low-ego team driven by urgency, collaboration, and bold thinking. Working at Flock means tackling big challenges, moving fast, and continuously improving. It’s intense but deeply rewarding for those who want to make an impact.

With nearly $700M in venture funding and a $7.5B valuation, we’re scaling intentionally and seeking top talent to help build the impossible. If you value teamwork, ownership, and solving tough problems, Flock could be the place for you.

The Opportunity

As an Aviation Support Engineer, you are the technical bridge between field operations and core engineering. This role is responsible for the health, reliability, and continuous evolution of our drone fleet and docking infrastructure. You’ll dive deep into post-flight telemetry, lead hardware bring-up, and ensure that field data directly informs our next generation of hardware improvements.

In this position you will:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues with our drone systems, including airframe, connectivity, and radar systems.

  • Review post-flight telemetry via our diagnostic tools (Foxglove, Grafana, etc) to monitor and review vehicle performance.

  • Develop KPI dashboards related to drone system performance and engineering escalation.

  • Update and improve preventative maintenance and inspection schedules to operations teams related to the drone system.

  • Act as the primary feedback loop between field operations and the Engineering team, identifying actionable bugs and hardware improvements.

  • Create and maintain technical SOPs and troubleshooting guides to help scale our support capabilities as we grow.

  • Participate in the hands-on "bring-up" and QA testing of new docking hardware, and drone systems, applying industrial automation principles to ensure 24/7 reliability.

The position requires candidates to work onsite at our Atlanta-based manufacturing facility for hands-on hardware collaboration and field testing.

The Skillset

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a proven experience in the field.

  • 3+ years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining Unmanned Aerial systems.

  • Experience with radio communication and triaging issues around signal strength and throughput.

  • Experience with hardware diagnostic tools (e.g., Multimeters, Oscilloscopes) and digital monitoring dashboards (e.g., Grafana, Foxglove, or similar telemetry tools).

  • Familiar with GPS, LTE, and RF communications systems between UAS hardware and core infrastructure

  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, specifically the ability to translate technical hardware failures into clear, actionable documentation.

  • Excellent teamwork skills with a proven ability to learn from senior leads and execute within a cross-functional environment.

Nice to have

  • Working knowledge of radar systems.

  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate (you will be required to get one).

  • Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and safe handling of Li-ion chemistries.

Feeling uneasy that you haven’t ticked every box? That’s okay; we’ve felt that way too. Studies have shown women and minorities are less likely to apply unless they meet all qualifications. We encourage you to break the status quo and apply to roles that would make you excited to come to work every day.

90 Days at Flock

We prescribe 90-day plans and believe that good days lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90-day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as an Aviation Support Engineer at Flock.

The First 30 Days

  • Achieve "Level 1" internal certification on existing drone airframes, connectivity modules, and docking hardware.

  • Perform an in-person inspection of our Atlanta-based fleet and shadow the Lead Engineer on live telemetry monitoring sessions.

  • Set up your diagnostic environment and gain proficiency in our data stack, including Foxglove and Grafana.

  • Familiarize yourself with our RF configurations and existing troubleshooting workflows for signal throughput and connectivity.

The First 60 Days

  • Independently triage and resolve Tier 2 technical escalations involving vehicle performance, radar systems, and docking reliability.

  • Conduct post-flight telemetry reviews to identify edge-case hardware behaviors and translate them into actionable engineering bug reports.

  • Assist with the physical bring-up and field validation of new docking hardware, ensuring 24/7 autonomous reliability.

  • Define and implement new diagnostic views in our monitoring dashboards to improve real-time visibility into vehicle "heartbeats."

90 Days & Beyond

  • Own the "Technical Support Playbook" and SOPs for the rollout of next-generation aircraft and docking systems.

  • Establish predictive maintenance and inspection schedules for the global fleet based on analyzed failure modes and telemetry trends.

  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert for battery management systems (BMS) and radar health, providing a critical feedback loop to the hardware design team.

  • Lead the bring-up process for new fleet deployments, ensuring all systems meet our rigorous QA and safety standards before going live.
