Structural Steel Field Surveyor

Location: Maryland or Virginia β€” Field-Based
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Pay: $30/hour, with higher pay available based on experience

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Field Surveyor to support structural steel work throughout the Mid-Atlantic. This field-based position focuses on accurate site measurements, structural layout, alignment, and installation support. Regular travel to active construction sites is required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect field measurements and survey data using professional surveying equipment.
  • Establish building control lines, column locations, and anchor rod positions.
  • Check elevations, embed alignment, and structural orientation.
  • Prepare as-built drawings and related field documentation.
  • Support steel erection by verifying proper alignment and placement.
  • Coordinate with other trades to maintain structural accuracy and plumbness.
  • Assist with installation of structural and miscellaneous metals, including stairs and shafts.
  • Use Trimble, Bluebeam, CAD, and Microsoft Office for field and documentation tasks.
  • Follow and promote safe work practices on every job site.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in structural steel erection or field surveying.
  • Experience with surveying slopes, grades, and layouts for structural and miscellaneous metals.
  • Proficiency with a total station or similar surveying equipment.
  • Working knowledge of AISC standards for building alignment and orientation.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to job sites throughout the region.
  • Comfortable working at heights, including aerial lifts and elevated steel floors.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate work.
  • Effective communication and ability to work collaboratively with onsite teams.
