FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Solar Support Technician.

JOB SUMMARY

The Solar Support Technician will be responsible for connectivity of existing photovoltaic arrays to power-driven devices and provide load profile recommendations. The candidate should have a background in photovoltaic installation, electrical grid interconnection and experience in reading & interpreting Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) records.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Photovoltaic installation & electrical connectivity
  • Understanding of Utility grid interconnectivity
  • Monitor photovoltaic system for performance issues
  • Ability to assess SCADA monitoring & data collection
  • Diagnose and repair photovoltaic system malfunctions
  • Assist with reporting on project activities (virtual)
  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The employee is frequently required to reach/operate with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds (assistance will be provided).
  • Must be comfortable working around high-voltage systems.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must frequently stand or sit for extended periods and lift objects on occasions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work will take place at one solar demonstration site location.
  • Workdays will take place on weekdays & occasional weekend (if maintenance is required)
  • Working outdoors (under shed) in various climates, hot and cold - occasionally

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical training in electrical technology, renewable energy systems and industrial maintenance Understanding of AC/DC power systems and high voltage systems
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
  • Ability to use testing tools (e.g. multimeters).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • NABCEP certification (e.g., PV Installation Professional)
  • State Electrical License
