KGTV, the ABC affiliate in San Diego, California, owned by The E.W. Scripps Company, is seeking a skilled Photojournalist / Editor who will capture the stories that bring our community to life. In this role, you'll split your time between shooting in the field and editing shows in the newsroom, using your technical expertise and creative vision to deliver compelling content across multiple platforms. From capturing breaking news to crafting visually stunning packages and polishing newscasts, you'll play a crucial role in how San Diego experiences the news that matters most. San Diego's diverse landscape—from pristine beaches to vibrant urban neighborhoods—provides endless opportunities for dynamic storytelling. This thriving coastal city offers a unique blend of breaking news, cultural events, and human interest stories that will challenge and inspire your craft every day.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Capture and edit visual content for multiple platforms.

  • Operate and maintain live equipment, including microwave, satellite, and related news-gathering equipment.

  • Work in tandem with newsroom personnel to create and develop news stories.

  • Edit newscasts daily

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Associate's degree in related discipline preferred

  • Generally, 2+ years of experience in related field preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Proficiency with lighting and computer-based editing

  • Proficiency with live truck operation

  • Proficiency with editing stories and newscasts

  • Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics, and libel laws

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in posting content to the station's websites

  • Able to work efficiently under multiple deadlines on a daily basis

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company's required insurance limits

COMPENSATION RANGE:

Hourly: $29.26 - 31.50


 

Pursuant to state and local salary transparency laws, the salary range posted is specific to candidates who will perform this work in California.
