SummaryThe Marketing Specialist serves as a key member of the City's communications & marketing team. This position is responsible for the daily activities of the City’s social media, marketing, and promotional efforts for assigned City departments. This position performs a variety of marketing duties in support of the goals and mission of the City of Temple, with a special emphasis on creativity, written communication & advertising.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in development and execution of group sales strategies and marketing efforts
Implements social media strategies and campaigns to engage City residents
Designs social media graphics, signage, flyers and other promotional materials to support City departments
Develops monthly social media content calendars
Updates content for websites, social media, and other communication channels
Assists with content development & planning of various communications platforms
Produces, edits, and optimizes social media videos, aligns content with organizational goals
Serves as a department contact/liaison for City website(s) to ensure site content is current
Assists assigned departments with advertising and social media posts for hiring
Implements marketing and advertising plans for assigned departments
Seeks out relevant and proactive stories, topics, content, etc. to be used to promote Temple’s image
Collaborates with assigned departments to ensure that content communicated is relevant and timely
Advises departments of potential concerns and opportunities in public engagement and marketing
Provides marketing guidance and support to assigned departments in the promotion for special events, campaigns, services, and programs
Oversees marketing projects within the project management tool to ensure deadlines are met
Assists the Division Director in developing the annual advertising budget and supporting collateral
Facilitates monthly marketing meetings, coordinates effective communication and strategic alignment among team members for impactful campaign planning and execution
Stays current with industry trends and technology by attending trainings, conferences, and webinars
Participates in professional organizations and marketing information groups to advance knowledge and network with other industry professionals
Collaborates with departments to ensure all marketing and communications is relevant, intentional, and strategic
Assists Division Director with a variety of projects and other support
Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guideline
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Combination of education and experience equivalent to bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Mass Communication, or related field
Three (3) years of experience in marketing, content creation, newsletter writing, digital photography, videography, website design, social media platforms
Preferred Qualifications
Graphic design experience
Demonstrated use of Adobe Creative Suite
Municipal Government experience
Photography & Videography experience
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid driver’s license
