DescriptionThe thermal D&R engineer will be responsible for designing and releasing the thermal components and the thermal system within the HV battery, working with the HV battery integration team. The thermal D&R engineer will manage the thermal component supplier(s) throughout the entire development of the design, from concept to production launch.
ResponsibilitiesWhat you'll do…
- Develop battery specific thermal system boundary diagrams, P-Diagrams, DFMEAs and other core quality documentation.
- Support development of design and associated 3D models for the HV battery thermal components.
- Collaborate with other component engineering teams and D&R engineers on packaging, shared/related interfaces and durability objectives.
- Manage supplier designs, timing & quality and be the interface between the thermal component supplier(s) and the HV battery integration team.
- Execute release of thermal components and the thermal system to support all prototype & production build events.
- Support all HV battery pack build phases and discuss/resolve issues with the component supplier(s).
- Develop any corrective actions based on lessons learned and other core/foundational documents and processes.
- Validate the thermal component designs through CAE and/or bench level testing with the supplier(s) for all build phases.
- Review and signoff on testing data (physical and/or analytical) per the DVP&R plan.
- Provide production intent designs and associated validation and testing results to support final design judgement engineering reviews.
- Release and update components using the Ford WERS system.
- Minimal travel expected, both to supplier and Ford facilities.
QualificationsYou'll have...
- B.S. in Engineering – Mechanical or Chemical
- 3+ years experience in component packaging design of automotive or similar industry, experience in manufacturing, and or experience in electrified powertrain.
- Proficient knowledge of Digital Buck, TeamCenter, CATIA, or other CAD/CAE tools and able to coordinate CAD support from suppliers and internal pack teams.
- Knowledge of GD&T standards, 2D print and tolerance stack up analysis methods.
- Experience in DVP&R development and evaluation.
- Experience with Quality documents (DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, etc.).
- Experience writing requirements documents (ES) and evaluating supplier designs to requirements.
- Ability to work effectively with various functions of a vehicle program.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and attention to detail.
- Strong teamwork, organizational, oral communication, presentation, and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills, able to effectively interact with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

- B.S./M.S. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with a focus in thermal-fluid systems.
- 3+ years experience in High Voltage thermal component packaging design
- Experience in Design and Release roles in thermal component design or similar preferred.
- Knowledge of stampings, castings, and injection molded plastics preferred.
