GIS Supervisor (Remote Sensing Unit/LiDAR)
About this Position:
This position supervises all activities related to the daily operations and post-processing of all LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) and imagery data compiled by the Remote Sensing Unit.

Six years of experience in using geographic information systems (GIS), using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR
Twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field plus five years of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR
A bachelor’s degree with twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field plus four years of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography.

Job Duties:
Supervises and works along with staff in LiDAR data extraction/compilation generated and maintained by the Office of Engineering. Oversees and assists in production of detailed LiDAR derivative products as requested.
Supervises the development, implementation, and upgrading of the latest technology with LiDAR applications. Establishes equipment and product needs, including computer hardware and software and writes justifications for purchase.
Serves as the designated DOTD representative to federal, state and local agencies, the LiDAR GIS industry and the public.
Represents DOTD in LiDAR GIS activities pertaining to enterprise implementation, data collection, mapping and analysis at GIS conferences, seminars, workshops and training sessions to improve and stay abreast of the latest advances in LiDAR GIS and related technologies.
Supervises the production of various types of graphics and digital or photographic slides of special purpose maps, GIS statistics and results of modeling using a variety of software products including production of high-level GIS demonstrations with multimedia hardware and software.

Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a promotion or Detail to Special Duty and is only open to current DOTD permanent status employees.
