The Burlington Technical Center (BTC) is seeking a certified FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) mechanic to serve as a Contracted A&P General Instructor for an accelerated Summer 2026 program. This instructor will deliver intensive classroom and hands-on instruction aligned to FAA Part 147 General curriculum standards, supporting adult and post-secondary students in building foundational knowledge toward FAA certification. The role includes instruction in A&P General content, Turbine Engine Theory, and Welding, and requires collaboration with BTC staff to ensure a safe, compliant, and high-quality training environment.

Essential Functions

  • Deliver accelerated instruction aligned with FAA A&P General (Part 147) curriculum
  • Teach foundational aviation maintenance topics, including:
    • Basic electricity, materials, tools, and regulations
    • Physics and maintenance practices
  • Facilitate hands-on lab-based instruction and skills development
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans for a compressed schedule
  • Assess student learning through:
    • Quizzes
    • Practical demonstrations
    • Ongoing progress monitoring
  • Prepare students for FAA written, oral, and practical exam expectations
  • Maintain a safe learning environment aligned with BTC and industry standards
  • Collaborate with BTC faculty and leadership to align instruction with program goals
  • Support organization and use of tools, equipment, and materials
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation and instructional activities
  • Participate in staff meetings and program coordination as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • Hold a Vermont Teaching License
  • Current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certification
  • Recent professional experience as a practicing A&P mechanic
  • Experience working in aviation maintenance environments (general, commercial, military, or industrial)
  • Eligibility to work in the United States

Preferred

  • Experience teaching, training, mentoring, or coaching
  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Experience in accelerated or technical training programs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong technical expertise in FAA A&P General subject areas
  • Ability to communicate complex mechanical and regulatory concepts clearly
  • Effective classroom and lab management skills
  • Strong organizational and instructional planning abilities
  • Familiarity with FAA training documentation and compliance expectations
  • Commitment to safety, professionalism, and student success
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff

Compensation / Terms

  • Hourly, contracted position (non-exempt; eligible for overtime)
  • No benefits associated with this position
  • Duration: Summer 2026 (June–September)
