Pratt and Whitney, a subsidiary of RTX, is a world leader in the design, manufacture and support of engines for commercial, military and regional aircraft. The compressor aerodynamics group is looking for talented engineering students to work within the compressor aero thermal fluids discipline dealing with fan and compressor aerodynamic and flow system design

What You Will Do

ATS discipline responsibilities include the execution of secondary flow designs and thermal models for fans and compressors in aircraft gas turbine engines that meet aggressive design cycle time and component performance targets. Opportunities exist to work on a wide range of products and technical initiatives, including three-dimensional flow analysis, thermal designs, and compressor secondary flow enhancements. This position is located in East Hartford, CT. 

Key responsibilities include:

• Performing compressor secondary flow analysis
• Design of compressor thermal features including rotor, stator, and casing shapes
• Review and analysis of engine test data
• Supporting closure of key technical issues
• Working in teams with other engineers to improve technical capability

Qualifications You Must Have

• Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship session.
• Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship session.
• Coursework or experience in one or more of the following engineering disciplines: thermodynamics and engine performance, aerodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer & secondary flow
• Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Completed courses in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
• Coursework or experience with coding languages such as MATLAB or Python
• Experience with heat transfer
• Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
